Artists and Clips of Malhun Music

Malhun poems have been recorded and performed in Morocco since the 16th century. This poem, "Chafet Aini ya Raoui" was written by one of the first Malhun poets, Abdelaziz al-Maghrawi, in the 16th century and is still performed regularly.

Houcine Toulali was a well-known modern Malhun performer and composer of the 20th century. He studied Malhun's connections with Andalusian music and established the Meknes Orchestra of Malhun Music. Opposite is a clip of one of his most popular songs, "El Harraz."

Zohra Al Fassiya was one of the first female recording artists in Morocco. She sang not only Malhun music, but also Ghanarti. Her popularity extended to a private performance with the king. She reached the height of her popularity in the 1940s and 50s.
